Crowns

Restorative

Crowns that hold the tooth together

Overview

Structure restored, shade matched

A crown covers a tooth that has lost too much structure to be held together by a filling. It restores the shape and takes the force of your bite, which is what stops a cracked or heavily restored tooth from splitting later.

Shade and contour are matched to the teeth on either side, so the crown reads as a tooth rather than as dentistry. Your bite is checked and adjusted before you leave.

If a filling would still do the job, we will say so. A crown is the right answer when there is not enough tooth left for anything smaller.

Who it is for

Candidacy is confirmed in person, not online.

  • A tooth is cracked, heavily filled, or has broken.

  • You have had root canal treatment on a tooth that now needs protecting.

  • An older crown has failed or no longer fits well.

  • You want the tooth kept rather than removed, where that is realistic.

What to expect

The sequence, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Exam and assessment

We check how much sound tooth remains and confirm a crown is the right answer.

  2. 02

    Preparation

The tooth is shaped, and a scan or impression is taken for the laboratory.

  3. 03

    Temporary crown

You leave with a temporary that protects the tooth and lets you eat normally.

  4. 04

    Fit and cement

The final crown is tried in, matched, adjusted against your bite, then cemented.

What patients ask us first.

It is normally more than one visit because the crown is made to fit your tooth. PLACEHOLDER, office to confirm whether same visit crowns are offered.
